The energy platform project consisted in studying, programming, specifying and designing a construction that would be exemplary in terms of sustainable development within the heart of the Fontevraud abbey. The intention was to create a “sustainable city” within the framework of the ISO 26000 environmental standards.

A complete, partially underground complex, fully landscaped and invisible once the works were finished, was built facing the abbey church chevet.

The programme included two wood-burning boilers to heat the entire site, 92 solar panels perfectly integrated into the historic monument, offices, premises for storing archaeological remains, a waste treatment and sorting area as well as a rainwater collector to irrigate the green spaces.
