The Pavillon de l'Aurore is the jewel of the Domaine Départemental de Sceaux, an original monument of the composition desired by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, from the development project of 1670 represented by Jean Leblond, before the famous Orangerie de Sceaux of 1686, and authentic in its architecture as in its decor by Charles Le Brun, where the castle itself, demolished after the Revolution, had to be rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century.
It is therefore a particular attention which targets this Pavilion, in all its aspects, within the framework of the rehabilitation program launched by the Hauts de Seine Department, its attentive owner.
First, the restoration for the conservation and enhancement of its architecture, its decorations including the exceptional painted ceiling of the dome, its exterior setting with the steps of access to the steps and the basin with its fountain, then the compliance of the building both technically and functionally for the cultural uses attributed to it through an ambitious program and finally, the essential accessibility for people with disabilities, of a monument today accessible neither on the raised ground floor nor in the basement.
This subject of accessibility is, of course, one of the challenges of the present operation, because in such a prestigious monument, open to the public, with a confirmed vocation of cultural influence, it is not realistic to imagine, in the 21st century, hiding behind an exemption from the title of listed Historic Monument, in order not to offer everyone, without exception, the pleasure of visiting this rotunda lounge and its painted dome or these vaulted rooms on the lower level.
This objective, this obligation, if not regulatory, at least moral, must be a priority for this operation of rehabilitation and reappropriation of the monument.
The GMDP Agency, accompanied by its Project Management team, is in charge of this mission.
