ROYAL ABBEY OF FONTEVRAUD - SAINT-BENOIT INFIRMARIES

The buildings of the Saint Benoit infirmaries at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud were built at the beginning of the 17th century by Eléonore de Bourbon, to the east of the Grand Moutier. They are an integral part of the former Royal Abbey and belong to the State. They have been assigned to the Cultural Center of the West since 1975;
Arranged in a quadrilateral, they were completed in the 18th century on the south side, before being adapted and modified at the beginning of the 19th century, after the transformation of the Abbey into a prison and until its closure in 1963.
The work focused on
- Restoration of all facades and roofs
- The restoration of the Saint Benoit chapel and the Prioress's apartment, on the nave floor, with the restoration of the tour circuit via the mezzanine and the upgrading of standards and technical equipment;
-The opening to the public of the Grand Collecteur of the Abbey with its scenographic layout before the interior restructuring of the buildings to create the “Business Center” of the Abbey, including seminar and conference spaces”
