ROYAL ABBEY OF FONTEVRAUD
Listed as a Historic Monument

Maine-et-Loire, 49

The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, founded at the beginning of the 12th century, necropolis of the kings of England under the Plantagenet dynasty, is composed among other things, of the cloister of the great Moûtier, the Abbey Church, the Saint Benoit infirmaries and the Saint Lazare Priory. This priory has always been a place of reception and accommodation. Originally a leper colony of the abbey, a leper colony, then a rest home for the nuns, during the seven centuries of monastic life. After the French Revolution, and the transformation of the abbey into a penitentiary by Napoleon, the priory became an infirmary then a prison hospital. Since 1963, the Ministry of Culture has undertaken the restoration of the buildings classified as Historic Monuments. The operation consisted of restoring, restructuring and transforming the priory into a **** hotel with 55 rooms and family suites. The Lebanon building was restored and connected to the new hotel. A contemporary integrated extension kitchen was created for the hotel's gourmet restaurant. As in any listed Historic Monument, contemporary, functional, regulatory and technical requirements, in particular for the accessibility of all rooms for people with disabilities and environmental objectives, with the prior design of a new sustainable development energy hub, were implemented in the strictest respect for the monument and the reversibility of the contributions of our time. The design line, furniture and mobile lighting were entrusted to the Jouin Manku agency.
