SPRING DEPARTMENT STORE
Paris 9
Illustrating the specificity of this architecture in Paris, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, in Paris, with the use of mixed stone/metal construction techniques, these buildings by the architect Sédille for block 1, and by the architects Binet and Wibot for block 2 of the Printemps department store, were adapted and transformed according to commercial needs.
After the identification and analysis of the various pathologies affecting its structures as well as the modenatures of its facades and roofs, a restoration program for these buildings, part of which is protected as Historic Monuments, was defined in several stages including the elevation of Rue de Charras, followed by the work currently being carried out on Boulevard Haussmann.
These works included:
- the restoration of the elevations of blocks 1 and 2,
- the restoration of the brisis on the two islets,
- the restoration of the rotundas, with the coverings of the domes and lanterns.
Both a major structural intervention to control the stability disorders of the facades with metal frames and cut stone modenatures, the operation is also characterized by the different artistic crafts involved in this restoration: mosaic panels, stained glass windows, bay filling in luxfer panels, sculptures and reliefs in patinated and gilded zamack, stone sculpture, metal roofing with scales and ornaments in gilded zinc leaf.
Thus, nearly twenty tradesmen were involved in this project which was accompanied, on Boulevard Haussmann, by a decorative tarpaulin.
